Commission rules allow you to define commission structures for booking partners. This feature ensures accurate and automated commission payouts, saving tourism operators time and improving partner relationships. For example, you can set a percentage-based commission for travel agents or a fixed amount for online booking platforms.

Accessing this feature

REQUIRES_DEVELOPER_INPUT: The navigation path to access commission rules cannot be verified.

How to use it

Creating a commission rule

  1. On the Commission Rules page, click the + Add New Rule button.

  2. Enter a clear, descriptive name for your rule. For example, "Standard Travel Agent Commission - All Tours" or "Online Partner Promo - July". This helps you easily identify it later.

  3. Choose the commission type:

  • Percentage: A percentage of the booking value (e.g., 10% of the total booking).

  • Fixed Amount: A set dollar amount per booking or per person (e.g., $15 per booking, or $5 per person).

  1. Select the option that best suits your agreement.

  2. Enter the actual percentage or dollar amount for your commission. If you chose 'Percentage', enter a number like '10' for 10%. If you chose 'Fixed Amount', enter '15' for $15.

  3. Specify which tours or experiences this rule should apply to:

  • All Experiences: Applies to everything you offer.

  • Specific Experiences: Select individual tours, activities, or packages from a list.

  • Specific Categories: Applies to all experiences within a certain category (e.g., "Adventure Tours").

  1. Assign to specific agents or booking channels. This is useful if different partners have different commission agreements. If you leave this blank, the rule might apply broadly, or you might have a separate field to specify if it's for 'Direct Bookings', 'Agent Bookings', etc.

  2. Set Validity Dates (Optional): Set a Start Date and an End Date to make a commission rule active only for a certain period, like a special promotion. If it's an ongoing rule, you can leave these blank or set the end date far into the future.

  3. Double-check all the details you've entered.

  4. Once you are satisfied: Click the Save button.

With the commission management feature, you are able to:

  • Create as many different commission rules as you need for various partners or experiences.

  • Apply percentage-based commissions for flexible rates.

  • Set fixed-amount commissions for consistent payouts.

  • Target specific tours, activities, or categories for tailored agreements.

  • Assign rules to individual booking agents or channels.

  • Schedule commission rules to start and end on specific dates for promotions or seasonal rates.

  • Easily view, edit, or deactivate any existing commission rule whenever your agreements change.

  • Gain clarity on your financial obligations to partners, making reconciliation easier.

Tips

  • Be Descriptive with Names: Give your rules clear, easy-to-understand names (e.g., "Agent X - 15% Standard", "Wholesale Partner - Kayak Tour Deal"). This makes it much easier to manage them as your business grows.

  • Review Regularly: Review your commission rules every few months, or whenever you update your pricing or partner agreements. This ensures everything is always up-to-date and accurate.

  • Communicate Clearly: Always have clear, written agreements with your agents and partners about their commission rates. This feature helps you implement those agreements, but communication is still key!

  • Start Simple: If you're new to this, start with one or two basic rules. Once you're comfortable, you can gradually add more complex rules for different scenarios.

  • Use Validity Dates for Promotions: Planning a special offer with a partner? Use the start and end dates to set up a temporary commission rule. It will automatically activate and deactivate.

  • Track Your Performance: Keep an eye on your reports to see which commission rules are driving the most bookings and revenue. This can help you refine your partnership strategies.
