helps you accurately define and organise your tourism offerings. Assigning the correct category ensures your experiences are discoverable by the right audience and provides accurate data for reporting and analytics, helping you optimise search results and improve guest experience.

Accessing this feature

To access the experience category management feature:

Go to Experiences.

Choose either Add Experience to create a new listing or locate an existing experience and click Edit.

Within the experience editor, proceed to the relevant section.

How to use it

Follow these steps to effectively select and assign experience categories:

  1. Navigate to Experience Details: After accessing the experience editor (as outlined above), ensure you are on the relevant section. This section contains the primary fields for defining your experience, including its category.

  2. Locate the Product Category Field: Identify the dropdown menu or search box. This interface is designed to help you browse or search for relevant classifications.

  3. Search or Browse Categories: If the list of categories is extensive, use the search functionality by typing keywords related to your experience (e.g., "tour," "accommodation," "experience," "rental"). Alternatively, browse the hierarchical structure to understand the available parent and sub-categories.

  4. Select the Most Accurate Primary Category: Choose the single category that most precisely describes your experience. This primary selection is crucial for core discoverability.

  5. Assign Secondary Categories (Optional): If the platform supports multi-category assignment, consider adding up to two secondary categories that also accurately describe aspects of your experience. This can enhance visibility across different search queries. Exercise discretion to avoid over-categorisation, which can dilute accuracy.

  6. Review and Confirm: Before saving, review your chosen categories to ensure they accurately reflect the nature of your offering and align with how a guest would typically search for it. Inaccurate categorisation can lead to missed opportunities for discoverability.

  7. Save Your Changes: Once satisfied with your category selections, click the Save button to apply the changes to your experience listing.

Tips

  • Prioritise Accuracy: Always select the most precise and descriptive category available. Avoid generic options if a more specific sub-category exists, as this significantly improves search relevance and guest satisfaction.

  • Maintain Consistency: Ensure all similar experiences are categorised uniformly. Inconsistent categorisation can confuse guests and hinder the effectiveness of your internal reporting and external marketing.

  • Think Like Your Guest: Consider what terms or categories a potential guest would use when searching for your experience. Align your selection with common search behaviours and expectations.

  • Regularly Review Categories: As your experience offerings evolve or as new categories become available, periodically review and update your experience categorisation to maintain accuracy and optimise visibility.

  • Use Secondary Categories Wisely: If the platform allows, use secondary categories to capture additional relevant aspects of your experience, but avoid over-categorisation. Each assigned category should genuinely enhance discoverability.

  • Understand Platform Implications: Be aware that category selection can influence how your experience appears in various platform sections, including featured listings, promotional campaigns, and API integrations with third-party distributors.

  • Leverage for SEO: Accurate categorisation contributes to better search engine optimisation (SEO) within the platform, making your experiences more likely to appear in relevant internal search results.
