How to use it
The Accessibility Options panel presents a range of configurable settings. Follow these steps to adjust your preferences:
Text Size and Scaling
Locate the "Text Size" section.
Use the slider or dropdown menu to select your preferred text size. Options typically range from 'Small' to 'Extra Large'.
The platform will dynamically adjust text elements to your chosen scale, improving readability.
Contrast and Colour Schemes
Find the "Colour and Contrast" section.
Toggle the "High Contrast Mode" switch to enable or disable this feature.
High contrast schemes use darker backgrounds with lighter text or vice versa to enhance visibility.
Some options may include specific colour blindness modes (e.g., Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia). Select the mode that best suits your visual needs from the available dropdown.
Reduced Motion and Animations
In the "Motion Preferences" section, locate the "Reduce Animations" toggle.
Enable this setting to minimise or remove decorative animations, transitions, and parallax effects throughout the platform. This can be beneficial for users sensitive to motion or those seeking a more static interface.
Keyboard Navigation
The platform is designed to be fully navigable using a keyboard. To enhance visual cues for keyboard users, locate the "Keyboard Focus Indicator" option.
Enable this setting to display a clear, visible outline around the currently focused element (e.g., buttons, links, input fields) as you tab through the interface. This provides essential context for keyboard-only navigation.
Screen Reader Optimisation
Under "Assistive Technology," you may find options to optimise the interface for screen readers.
Ensure "Screen Reader Mode" is enabled. This setting may adjust underlying semantic structures and ARIA attributes to provide clearer, more descriptive information to screen readers, improving the auditory experience.
Audio and Visual Alerts
In the "Notification Preferences" section, you can configure how alerts and notifications are presented.
Adjust the volume for auditory alerts using the provided slider, or disable them entirely if preferred.
For visual alerts, you may have options to control their duration or prominence.
Saving Your Preferences
After making your selections, scroll to the bottom of the Accessibility Options page.
Click the Save Changes or Apply Settings button to implement your chosen configurations. Your preferences will be stored and applied automatically upon subsequent logins.
Tips
Experiment with Settings: Dedicate time to explore and adjust each accessibility option. The optimal configuration is highly personal, so experiment to find what best suits your individual needs.
Regular Review: As your needs evolve or platform updates are introduced, periodically revisit your accessibility settings to ensure they remain synchronised with your preferences.
Understand Impact: Before enabling or disabling a setting, briefly read its description to understand how it will alter your user experience. This helps in making informed choices.
Consider Organisational Needs: For administrators managing multiple user accounts, consider common accessibility requirements within your organisation to recommend or pre-configure baseline settings where appropriate.
Provide Feedback: If you encounter any aspect of the platform that could be more accessible or if a feature does not function as expected, use the support channels to provide constructive feedback. This contributes to continuous improvement.
