How to use it
Using Insider Portal Analytics involves a clear process to extract meaningful insights:
Once you have accessed the Analytics page, you will be presented with a dashboard displaying various data visualizations and metrics.
Select Your Data Range: At the top of the dashboard, locate the date range selector. Click on this to choose a specific period for which you wish to view data. Options typically include 'Last 7 Days', 'Last 30 Days', 'This Quarter', 'Last Quarter', or a custom date range. Selecting an appropriate range is crucial for identifying relevant trends and performance changes.
Apply Filters (If Available): Depending on the analytics configuration, you may have options to filter data by content type (e.g., articles, resources, events), audience segments, or specific campaigns. Use these filters to narrow down your focus and gain more granular insights into particular areas of interest.
Interpret Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): The dashboard will display various KPIs such as 'Profile Views', 'Content Engagement Rate', 'Resource Downloads', 'Click-Through Rate (CTR)', and 'Unique Visitors'. Each KPI is designed to provide a quick understanding of a specific aspect of your performance. Hover over data points or information icons for detailed explanations of each metric.
Comprehensive Profile Tracking: Monitor the number of views your profile receives, identifying peak periods and the effectiveness of your profile content in attracting attention.
Content Engagement Metrics: Gain insights into how users interact with your published content, including article reads, resource downloads, video plays, and event registrations.
Audience Behaviour Analysis: Understand the demographics and engagement patterns of your audience, helping you tailor content to specific user groups.
Trend Identification: Visualise performance over time through intuitive graphs, enabling you to identify long-term trends, seasonal variations, and the impact of specific initiatives.
Performance Benchmarking: Compare your current performance against previous periods or, where applicable, against anonymized aggregate data to gauge relative success.
Click-Through Rate (CTR) Tracking: Measure the effectiveness of your calls to action and links within your content, indicating how well they drive users to further engagement.
Downloadable Reports: Export detailed reports in various formats for offline analysis, record-keeping, or sharing with stakeholders and team members.
Top Content Identification: Quickly identify your highest-performing content based on views, engagement, or downloads, providing clear direction for future content creation.
Analyse Visualizations: Review the charts and graphs, which may include line graphs showing trends over time, bar charts comparing different content types, or pie charts illustrating audience demographics. Look for patterns, spikes, or dips in performance that could indicate successful content, areas for improvement, or external factors influencing engagement.
Drill Down into Specific Reports: Many dashboards offer the ability to click on summary metrics or chart segments to access more detailed reports. For example, clicking on 'Content Engagement' might lead you to a list of your most engaged-with articles, providing specific data for each.
Export Data: To conduct further analysis offline or to share insights with your team, use the Export function, typically located at the top right of the dashboard. This allows you to download the raw data in formats such as CSV or Excel.
Tips
To maximise the value derived from Insider Portal Analytics, consider implementing the following best practices:
Regularly review your data. Schedule consistent times, such as weekly or monthly, to review your analytics. Regular checks allow for timely identification of trends and issues, enabling quick adjustments.
Set clear objectives. Before diving into the data, define what you aim to achieve. Are you looking to increase profile views, boost resource downloads, or improve engagement on specific articles? Clear objectives will guide your analysis.
Identify high-performing content. Pinpoint the articles, resources, or events that consistently perform well. Analyse their characteristics β topic, format, tone β and apply these insights to future content creation.
Optimise underperforming content. For content with low engagement, investigate potential reasons. Consider updating titles, improving descriptions, enhancing visuals, or promoting it through different channels within the portal.
Experiment and test. Use analytics to inform A/B testing or content variations. For instance, try different headlines for articles and observe which ones generate more clicks or reads.
Connect analytics to actions. Translate data insights into actionable strategies. If profile views are low, update your profile with more compelling information. If a certain type of resource is popular, create more of that type.
Understand your audience. Use audience behaviour data to understand who is engaging with your content. This can help refine your content's tone, complexity, and focus to better resonate with your target users.
Document and share insights. Keep a record of key findings, successful strategies, and lessons learned. Share these insights with your team or relevant colleagues to foster a data-driven approach across your organisation.
Leverage Date Comparisons: Always compare current performance against previous periods (e.g., this month vs. last month, this quarter vs. last quarter) to understand growth, decline, or stability.
