Writing Your Business Description

Your business description tells potential customers who you are and what makes you special. Here's how to write one that attracts visitors.

How to add your description

  • Go to My Business from the main menu

  • Click Edit Profile

  • Find the Description or About section

  • Write your description

  • Click Save

What to include

The essentials

  • What you offer — your main products or experiences

  • What makes you unique — your special features or approach

  • Your location — where customers will find you

  • Who you serve — your ideal visitors

Your story

  • How your business started

  • Your passion and expertise

  • Awards or recognition

  • Years of experience

Writing tips

Keep it customer-focused

Instead of: "We have been operating since 2010."
Try: "You'll benefit from our 15 years of local expertise."

Use natural language

Write as if you're talking to a potential customer in person.

Highlight benefits

Focus on what customers will experience, not just features.

Be specific

Instead of: "We offer great experiences."
Try: "You'll spot dolphins on 95% of our tours."

Description structure

A good description often follows this pattern:

  • Hook — grab attention with your unique value

  • What you do — explain your offerings

  • Why choose you — your differentiators

  • Call to action — encourage them to book or learn more

Example description

"Discover the Whitsundays from the water with our family-run sailing adventures. For over 20 years, we've been sharing our love of this pristine marine environment with visitors from around the world.

>

Our small-group tours mean you'll enjoy personal attention from our experienced crew, who know the best snorkelling spots and hidden beaches. Whether you're a first-time sailor or a seasoned explorer, we'll create memories that last a lifetime.

>

Join us for a day on the water — your island adventure awaits."

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Too short — one sentence doesn't tell your story

  • Too long — keep it scannable (2–3 paragraphs)

  • All caps — hard to read

  • Jargon — use plain language visitors understand

  • Outdated info — review regularly

Your description is often a customer's first impression — make it count.
