Setting Product Requirements

Requirements help customers understand if your product is right for them. Being upfront about prerequisites prevents disappointments and ensures everyone has a great experience.

Why requirements matter

Clear requirements:

  • Set appropriate expectations

  • Reduce unsuitable bookings

  • Improve customer satisfaction

  • Protect your business from liability

  • Help customers prepare properly

Types of requirements

Physical requirements

For active experiences, consider:

  • Fitness level — "Moderate fitness required for 2-hour bushwalk"

  • Swimming ability — "Must be a confident swimmer"

  • Mobility — "Able to climb 50 steps"

  • Health conditions — "Not suitable for those with heart conditions"

Age requirements

Specify age limits:

  • Minimum age — "Children must be 8 years or older"

  • Maximum age — "Participants must be under 65"

  • Supervision — "Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult"

Group requirements

For products needing minimum numbers:

  • Minimum participants — "Minimum 2 people required"

  • Booking requirements — "Groups of 6 or more must book in advance"

Equipment and preparation

What customers need to bring or do:

  • Clothing — "Wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection"

  • Documents — "Bring photo ID and booking confirmation"

  • Preparation — "Complete online waiver before arrival"

How to add requirements

  • Click on the product you want to update

  • Click Save

Writing effective requirements

Be clear and specific

Instead of vague requirements:

  • ❌ "Some fitness required"

  • ✅ "Must be able to walk 5km on uneven terrain over 3 hours"

Explain the reason

Help customers understand why:

  • "Minimum age 10 years — safety equipment doesn't fit younger children"

  • "Maximum weight 120kg — weight limit of the zipline harness"

Be honest but welcoming

Frame requirements positively:

  • ✅ "Perfect for those who enjoy moderate hiking"

  • ❌ "Not for unfit people"

Displaying requirements

Requirements should be visible:

  • In your product description

  • On the booking page

  • In confirmation emails

  • At the point of sale

Consider grouping requirements:

  • Who can participate — age, fitness, health

  • What to bring — equipment, clothing, documents

  • How to prepare — waivers, notifications, arrive early

Handling exceptions

Some customers may ask about exceptions. Have a clear policy:

  • Can requirements be waived in certain circumstances?

  • Who makes that decision?

  • What documentation is needed?

Updating requirements

Review your requirements when:

  • Safety standards change

  • Equipment is updated

  • You receive feedback about unclear requirements

  • Regulations change

  • Your product evolves

Clear requirements protect both you and your customers — they're a sign of a professional operator.
