Setting Product Categories

Categories help organise your products into logical groups. They make it easier for customers to browse and for you to manage your offerings.

What are product categories?

Categories are custom groups you create to organise products:

  • By type: Tours, Accommodation, Experiences

  • By theme: Adventure, Relaxation, Family

  • By location: City, Coast, Outback

  • By audience: Couples, Families, Solo Travellers

You can create categories that make sense for your business.

Managing categories

Accessing the categories page

  • Go to Products from the main menu

  • Click Categories or navigate to Categories

  • View, create, and manage your categories

Creating a category

  • Click Add Category or the + button

  • Enter a Category Name (e.g., "Wine Tours")

  • Add a Description (optional but helpful)

  • Choose a Colour to visually distinguish it

  • Upload a Hero Image (optional)

  • Click Save

Editing a category

  • Find the category in your list

  • Click the Edit icon

  • Update the name, description, colour, or image

  • Click Save

Reordering categories

Categories can be dragged to change their display order:

  • Click and hold the drag handle (grip icon)

  • Drag the category to its new position

  • Release to save the new order

Deleting a category

  • Find the category you want to remove

  • Click the Delete icon (trash)

  • Confirm the deletion

Note: Deleting a category doesn't delete the products in it — they simply become uncategorised.

Assigning products to categories

From the product edit page

  • Go to Products

  • Click on the product you want to categorise

  • Click Edit

  • Find the Category field

  • Select a category from the dropdown

  • Click Save

Bulk assignment

To assign multiple products at once:

  • Go to your products list

  • Select the products you want to categorise

  • Use the bulk action menu

  • Choose Assign Category

  • Select the category

  • Confirm

Category best practices

Create meaningful categories

Think about how customers browse:

  • ✅ "Half-Day Experiences" — useful for time-poor visitors

  • ✅ "Family Adventures" — helps families find suitable options

  • ❌ "Category 1" — meaningless to customers

Keep it simple

Too many categories creates confusion:

  • Aim for 5-10 categories maximum

  • Combine similar groups

  • Review and consolidate periodically

Use consistent naming

Maintain a naming convention:

  • All plural: "Tours", "Experiences", "Packages"

  • Or all descriptive: "Explore by Boat", "Discover on Foot"

Add visual distinction

Each category should be easy to identify:

  • Choose distinct colours

  • Use representative hero images

  • Write clear descriptions

Using category colours

Colours help visually organise your products:

  • Choose distinct colours — avoid similar shades

  • Consider meaning — blue for water activities, green for nature

  • Be consistent — use the same colour logic across categories

  • Test visibility — ensure text is readable over your chosen colour

Available colours include Indigo, Rose, Amber, Emerald, Sky, Violet, Pink, Teal, Orange, and Slate.

Category hero images

A hero image represents the category visually:

  • Choose representative photos — show what the category includes

  • Use high-quality images — at least 1200 x 800 pixels

  • Keep it current — update seasonally if needed

To add a hero image:

  • Edit the category

  • Click Upload Image

  • Select your image file

  • Save the category

Products without categories

Uncategorised products still appear in your full product list. Consider:

  • Creating a "General" or "Other" category as a catch-all

  • Regularly reviewing uncategorised products

  • Assigning categories as part of product creation


Well-organised categories help customers find what they're looking for and showcase the breadth of your offerings.
