Adding Product Extras

Extras are optional add-ons customers can purchase with your product. They enhance the experience, increase booking value, and give customers flexibility to customise their purchase.

What are extras?

Extras are additional items or services offered alongside your main product:

  • Upgrades — premium options for enhanced experiences

  • Equipment — gear hire for activities

  • Add-ons — additional services or inclusions

  • Enhancements — special touches that add value

Why offer extras?

Extras benefit both you and your customers:

For your business

  • Increase average booking value

  • Offer flexibility without complexity

  • Upsell without pressure

  • Differentiate from competitors

For customers

  • Customise their experience

  • Choose what matters to them

Creating an extra

  • Click Edit to enter edit mode

  • Navigate to the Rates or Pricing section

  • Click Add Rate and choose rate category Extra or Add-on

  • Fill in the details:

- Name — what the extra is called - Description — what's included - Price — cost of the extra - Pricing unit — per person, per booking, per night, etc.

  • Click Save

Extra details to include

For each extra, specify:

  • Clear name — "Wetsuit Hire" not "Option A"

  • Description — what's included and why it adds value

  • Price — make it clear and fair

  • Availability — any limits or conditions

Pricing your extras

Cost-plus approach

Calculate your costs and add margin:

  • Equipment cost/depreciation

  • Additional staff time

  • Materials or supplies

  • Target profit margin

Value-based pricing

Price based on perceived value:

  • What would customers expect to pay?

  • What do competitors charge?

  • How much does it enhance the experience?

Bundle considerations

Consider package pricing:

  • Discount multiple extras together

  • Create "enhancement packages"

  • Offer early-booking extras incentives

Displaying extras

During booking

Show extras at the right moment:

  • After main product selection

  • Before payment

  • With clear descriptions and pricing

In your listing

Mention popular extras:

  • "Upgrade options available"

  • "Lunch can be added"

  • "Equipment hire included in premium option"

Managing extras

Track popularity

Monitor which extras sell:

  • Focus on popular ones

  • Improve or remove unpopular ones

  • Test new extras periodically

Update seasonally

Extras might change by season:

  • Summer: cold drinks, sun protection

  • Winter: warm beverages, blankets

  • Events: special commemorative items

Review pricing

Check extra pricing regularly:

  • Are costs covered?

  • Is value perception correct?

  • How do you compare to competitors?

Best practices

Keep it simple

  • Offer 3-5 extras maximum

  • Make choices easy

  • Avoid overwhelming customers

Add genuine value

  • Extras should enhance the experience

  • Don't offer unnecessary items

  • Ensure quality matches the main product

Price fairly

  • Extras should feel like good value

  • Don't overcharge for simple items

  • Consider perception carefully

Well-chosen extras increase revenue while letting customers create their perfect experience.
