Completing Tasks
There's nothing quite like ticking off a completed task. Marking tasks as done tracks your progress, updates your project status, and lets everyone know the work is finished.
How to complete a task
From the task list
The quickest way:
Find the task in your project or Tasks
Click the checkbox next to the task
The task is marked complete instantly
From the task detail
For more control:
Open the task
Click Mark Complete or the complete button
Optionally add a completion note
The task status changes to complete
Using keyboard shortcuts
Speed up your workflow:
Select a task and press X or Done to complete

What happens when you complete a task
Visual changes
Checkbox appears ticked
Task may show strikethrough
Moved to completed section (if using filters)
Progress updates
Project completion percentage increases
Milestone progress updates (if linked)
Dashboard reflects the change
Notifications
Project owner may receive notification
Activity logged in project feed
Time entries remain linked
Completing tasks with subtasks
When a task has subtasks:
Complete subtasks individually
Mark each subtask complete as you finish it
Parent task shows progress (e.g., "3 of 5 complete")
Complete the parent task when all subtasks are done
Complete parent task
If you complete the parent:
Option to mark all subtasks complete
Or leave subtasks as incomplete
Choose based on your situation
Undoing completion
Made a mistake? Easy to fix:
Find the completed task
Click the checkbox again to uncheck
Or open the task and click Reopen
Task returns to active status
Adding completion notes
Document what was done:
Open the task
Add a comment before completing
Note any relevant details:
- What was delivered - Where files are located - Any follow-up needed
Then mark complete
This creates a record of the completed work.
Bulk completing tasks
Finish multiple tasks at once:
Go to your project's Tasks tab
Select multiple tasks using checkboxes
Click Bulk Actions
Choose Mark Complete
Confirm to complete all selected tasks
Viewing completed tasks
Filter to completed
Go to Tasks
Click Filters
Select Status: Completed
See all finished tasks

Open your project
Go to the Tasks tab
Toggle Show Completed
View all tasks including completed ones

Check the project Activity tab
See when tasks were completed

Before marking complete
Verify the work is truly done:
All requirements met?
Quality checked?
Any approvals needed?
Documentation updated?
Add context
Help future reference:
Note any deviations from plan
Link to deliverables
Mention follow-up items

Don't let completed work sit unmarked:
Complete tasks as you finish
Don't batch completions
Keep project status accurate
Handling incomplete tasks
Sometimes work can't be finished:
Can't complete as planned
Add a comment explaining why
Either:
- Update the task scope and complete - Close as won't complete - Reassign to someone else
Document the decision
Blocked tasks
If something's blocking completion:
Add a comment about the blocker
Tag relevant people
Consider creating a new task for the blocker
Update when resolved
Cancelled tasks
If a task is no longer needed:
Open the task
Change status to Cancelled (if available)
Or add a note and close it
