Applying Discounts

Offering discounts is a great way to reward loyal customers, run promotions, and fill those last few spots on a tour. Tourism Accelerator makes it easy to apply various types of discounts to your sales.

Types of Discounts

Promotional Codes

Pre-configured codes that customers can use for a set discount. Great for:

  • Social media campaigns

  • Email marketing offers

  • Partner referrals

  • Seasonal promotions

Manual Discounts

Applied by staff during a transaction. Useful for:

  • VIP customer recognition

  • Group discounts negotiated on the spot

  • Price matching

  • Staff discretionary discounts

Automatic Discounts

Applied automatically based on rules you've set up. For example:

  • "Book 4, get 1 free" group offers

  • Early bird pricing

  • Member discounts

Applying a Promotional Code

When a customer has a discount code:

  • Add all items to the cart as normal

  • Click Apply Discount or the discount icon in the cart section

  • Select Promotional Code

  • Enter the code exactly as provided (codes are not case-sensitive)

  • Click Apply

The discount will appear in the cart with the savings displayed. If the code is invalid or expired, you'll see a helpful message explaining why.

Applying a Manual Discount

To apply a discount at your discretion:

  • Add items to the cart

  • Click Apply Discount

  • Select Manual Discount

  • Choose the discount type:

- Percentage: Enter a percentage (e.g., 10%) - Fixed Amount: Enter a dollar amount (e.g., $20 off)

  • Optionally, add a reason for the discount (helpful for reporting)

  • Click Apply

Note: Your role permissions determine the maximum discount you can apply. If you need to exceed your limit, a manager can authorise a higher discount.

Applying Discounts to Specific Items

Sometimes you only want to discount one item in a cart:

  • Click on the specific item in the cart

  • Select Item Discount

  • Enter the discount percentage or amount

  • Click Apply

The discount applies only to that item, leaving others at full price.

Viewing Applied Discounts

All discounts are clearly displayed in the cart:

  • Original price shown with a strikethrough

  • Discount amount shown in green

  • New subtotal calculated automatically

  • GST adjusts based on the discounted total

Removing a Discount

Changed your mind? No problem:

  • Find the discount in the cart (shown below the item or in the totals)

  • Click the X next to the discount

  • The price reverts to the original amount

Discount Reporting

All discounts are tracked for transparency:

  • View discounts in the Sales Report

  • See which staff members applied manual discounts

  • Track promotional code usage

  • Monitor total discount value given

Setting Up Promotional Codes

To create new promotional codes for your business:

  • Navigate to Settings > Discounts & Promotions

  • Click Create Promotional Code

  • Configure the details:

- Code name (what customers enter) - Discount value (percentage or fixed) - Valid dates (start and end) - Usage limits (total uses or per customer) - Applicable products (all or specific items)

  • Click Save
