Transferring Ownership
The Owner role is the highest level of access in Launchpad. If your business is changing hands, or you need to designate a new primary account holder, here's how to transfer ownership safely.
What the Owner controls
The Owner has unique capabilities that other roles don't:
Billing and subscription — manage payments and plan changes
Organisation deletion — can delete the entire organisation
Ownership transfer — only the Owner can transfer the Owner role
Ultimate authority — cannot be removed or demoted by others
When to transfer ownership
Common scenarios for ownership transfer:
Scenario | Action |
Selling the business | Transfer to new owner |
Retiring from the business | Transfer to successor |
Changing business structure | Transfer to new entity representative |
Original owner stepping back | Transfer to operations manager |
Temporary handover needed | Consider Admin role instead |
Before you transfer
Ensure the recipient is ready
They should be an existing team member with Admin role
They understand the responsibilities of ownership
They have access to billing information
They're prepared to take on ultimate accountability
Review what transfers
Complete control of the organisation
Billing responsibility and payment methods
All Owner-only permissions
The ability to delete the organisation
What doesn't transfer
The previous Owner's personal Launchpad account
Other organisations you may own
Your personal login credentials
How to transfer ownership
Go to Settings > Team
Find the team member who will become the new Owner
Click on their row to open their profile
Click the three dots menu
Select Transfer Ownership
Review the transfer details:
- What the new Owner will control - What you'll retain (Admin access)
Enter your password to confirm
Click Transfer Ownership
You'll be asked to confirm one final time before the transfer completes.
After the transfer
For the new Owner
You now have full control of the organisation
Review Settings > Billing to understand payment setup
Confirm you can access all areas of the organisation
Update payment details if needed
For the previous Owner
You're automatically assigned the Admin role
You retain full operational access
You can no longer access billing or transfer ownership
You can continue working normally in the organisation
What if you want to leave entirely?
If the previous Owner wants to leave the organisation:
Complete the ownership transfer first
The new Owner can then remove you
Or you can remain as Admin if desired
Ownership transfer checklist
Before transferring, work through this checklist:
Preparation:
☐ New Owner is an existing team member
☐ New Owner understands their responsibilities
☐ Billing handover is arranged
☐ Business documentation is updated
Transfer:
☐ Transfer completed in Settings > Team
☐ New Owner can access all features
☐ Billing details updated if needed
Post-transfer:
☐ Previous Owner's role confirmed (Admin or removed)
☐ Team informed of the change
☐ External stakeholders notified if relevant
Emergency ownership transfer
If the Owner is unavailable and you need to transfer ownership urgently:
Contact Launchpad support
Provide proof of authorisation:
- Business registration documents - Legal authorisation to act on behalf of the business - Identification documents
Support will verify and assist with the transfer
This process takes longer and requires thorough verification.
Common questions
Can I undo an ownership transfer?
Yes, but only the new Owner can transfer ownership back to you. Ask them to follow the same transfer process.
What if the new Owner is not responsive?
Contact Launchpad support with documentation proving your authority over the business.
Can there be multiple Owners?
No. Each organisation has exactly one Owner. If you need to share top-level control, make the other person an Admin.
What happens to billing during transfer?
Existing payment methods remain active
The new Owner can update them
No interruption to your subscription
Do I need to inform anyone?
Launchpad notifies:
The new Owner (email confirmation)
The previous Owner (email confirmation)
Other Admins (notification in-app)
